Thinking of building an online marketplace? You don't need an army of programmers - our ecommerce marketplace builder platform lets you build a marketplace website fast with only a few clicks. You can sign up and figure out the basics in 15 minutes and then drop us a line if you have any questions. Here's 10 steps that show you how to build an online marketplace website:
1. First create a marketplace website on Blipteam
Think of a name for your e-commerce marketplace (you can always change it later). Go the Blipteam home page, sign up and our system will help you build your marketplace or your 'master' site.
2. Create a test seller's site
Open your marketplace site and log out of the site manager. Scroll down to the bottom of your site and hit the 'For Sellers' link. Follow the link and create a site for a test seller. Then create a dummy product with a low price (we will make a test sale) and image. Log out of this test seller account.
3. Merchant's site gets automatically added to your marketplace account
Sign back into your marketplace account and click the 'Merchants' tab - your seller site has automatically been added to your merchants list. Hit the 'View Listings' button next to your merchant site. This will bring up the dummy product you created earlier in your seller account. Hit the 'Add to Site' button. Click on 'View Site' and locate the product in your marketplace site.
4. Activate payments on your e-commerce marketplace website
Go into 'My Account' in your master site, set up your payment details - your seller's product is now ready for sale. Make a test sale and see how it works.
5. Sign up real sellers to your online marketplace
Now that you know how the setup works, you can get actual sellers to build their web stores on Blipteam and create actual products with prices and images. Be sure to give them the link to your seller sign-up page before they sign up - this will automatically attach them to your marketplace. Then 'Add' all their products to your master site.
6. Start using your own domain name
Upgrade your Blipteam account and start using your own domain name. You also get access to site analytics and our Search Engine Optimization features once you upgrade.
7. Promote your online marketplace
Read up on digital marketing, promote your marketplace - spread the word via social, attend industry events.
8. Check your Sales log
See all your orders in your Sales page - you can process orders here and mark them as 'Complete' as and when they are shipped out.
9. Ship orders to your customers
Some orders may request items from multiple sellers in a single sale - you will need to inform your sellers individually about their orders and get them to drop ship their items separately to the buyer. You will need to email tracking codes to your customers.
10. Pay your sellers
Your Sales log contains an itemised order by separate sellers and their item and shipping sub-totals. You can subtract your commissions and pay your sellers their amounts.
You could run your sellers' sites yourself but if you plan to have a large number of sellers with hundreds of products it will be easier if they maintained their stores themselves.
